The Secretariat

The Secretariat of HAMUN is comprised of university students studying various fields at a variety of schools from around that state and nation. All of these individuals are highly experienced in MUN, both as delegates and conference staff members. They are willing voulunteers who take time out of their schedules to participate in this conference. Each Secretariat member serves as a Chair or Director of the various simulated committees or councils.

Emily Bruxvoort, Secretary General

Emily is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin specializing in Middle Eastern Studies and History. During her college years, she participated in sixteen Model UN conferences and served as the Deputy Secretary General for six of those. She also served as a trainer for Global Classrooms Houston while living in the Houston area, an Associate Director for the UT Global Leadership Center, Director of the UT Global Opportunites Resource Center and an Arabic Flagship Fellow. Extremely honored to be serving as HAMUN XXXV's Secretary General, she looks forward to working with you throughout the HAMUN experience.

 


 

Jarrod Klawinsky, Under Secretary of Public Relations

Jarrod is a senior at the University of Houston pursuing a degree in Journalism and European Studies. He currently holds the postion of Life and Arts Editor for The Daily Cougar here at UH. He also serves as Contributing Writer and Senior Correspondent to New York and Miami Fashion Week to 002houston Magazine. This is Mr. Klawinsky's eighth year with HAMUN and has participated in ten MUN conferences including the UNA-USA MUN Conference at the UN headquarters in New York City. In March, he will participate in World MUN located in Taiwan. Mr. Klawinsky has also been actively involved in fund-raising, particularly for AIDS research and the cultural arts. He has served on the board and co-chaired many events with such organizations as AIDS Foundation Houston, Herman Park Conservancy Fund, and the Society of the Performing Arts. Upon graduation, Jarrod has hopes of joining the Peace Corps and attend graduate school at Columbia University.

 


Jimit Patel, Under Secretary of Logistics

Jimit is a sophomore at University of Houston majoring in hotel and restaurant management. He has been involved in HAMUN for 6 years and is very passionate about what he does. In his spare time, Jimit enjoys spending time keeping up-to-date on current events that range from international relations to car tech. HAMUN is a very big part of Jimit’s life and he cherishes his time at HAMUN and will give 110% towards making this year’s conference a memorable one. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Every artist was first an amateur”, every single person at HAMUN has their own experiences; whether it is their first year delegate or a secretariat, they all leave an equal mark.


 

 

Mariam Zakaria, Under Secretary of Publications

Mariam Zakaria is a junior at the University of Houston studying both Finance and Accounting. This will be Mariam's 7th year in HAMUN as she participated as delegate for four years in high school. At the University of Houston, Mariam is very active in the Student Government Association and is currently serving as Director of External Affairs. She is the president of the Bauer Women's Society and serves on the Board of the Student Alumni Connection. When Mariam is not involved with activities on campus, she frequently attends events by the United Nations Association of Houston, of which she serves on the Membership Committee, and the Houston World Affairs Council. As a part of the OSG, Mariam is very excited about HAMUN XXXV and hopes to make this year's conference the best one yet.

 


 

Ricky Jain, Under Secretary of Training

Ricky Jain is currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin. He is majoring in Business Honors and Finance and is minoring in Hindi. Ricky has been apart of HAMUN for six years now. This is his second year on the secretariat, and first year on the OSG. In Austin, Ricky is secretary of the national South Asian service fraternity, Beta Kappa Gamma, and an active member of Pratham, an organization looking to improve education in rural areas of India, and the Honors Business Association. Ricky also enjoys playing Intramural tennis and basketball. In the future, Ricky plans to travel abroad, hoping to get involved in the growing Financial Energy markets in India, and hoping to make a difference.


 

 

Shawn O'Neill, Director of Conference Services

Shawn O'Neill joins HAMUN from the world renowned James A. Baker III Institute of Public Policy. This is his ninth year working with HAMUN. He is co-founder of The Reply Group and also serves on the Board of Directors. A lifelong artist Mr. O'Neill graduated with a BFA from the Art Institute of Houston.
