Economic and Social Council

Chairperson(s): Economic and Social Council

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the Economic and Social Council of the 35th session of the Houston Area Model United Nations! As the dais, we are thrilled to have each and every one of you, and we look forward to meeting everyone in the upcoming months.

ECOSOC will simulate one of the UN's six major organs, and assist the General Assembly in promoting international economic and social cooperation and development. ECOSOC is well positioned to provide coherence and coordination for the overlapping functions of the UN's subsidiary bodies.

At conference, delegates will debate the issues and draw up resolutions regarding their nation's policy. Recent cases brought before the Economic and Social Council include melamine and lead paint poisonings and the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. As these  issues vary widely, we expect an enthusiastic debate concerning these topics.

We hope you all enjoy researching and writing your policy statements as well as researching your country's background. February will be here sooner than you think.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Chou, Chair
