About this Committee

The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Committee was founded in 1945 to address the food shortages which came with World War II. The main purpose of the committee is to find ways to improve food distribution, as well as nutrition and overall availability. There is also a focus on advancing food production and eradicating any and all diseases that come with poor-quality food. Its biggest goal is to provide healthy sustenance that will lead people to live their highest-quality of life. Some of their work includes the establishment of the Codex Alimentarius (which sets laws on things like food safety for all nations) and the elimination of Rinderpest (a disease that killed animals that contracted it). FAO plays an incredibly important role in today’s world, not only by discussing the lives of the hungry in developing countries, but also through debate on food policies and scientific study to better health.
