About this Committee
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was established in 1945 as a specialized committee for the purpose of ensuring food security as well as improving agricultural sustainability, nutrition, and quality of life for millions around the world. To achieve their goals, the FAO works with an array of institutional partnerships including governments, agricultural producers, and financial institutions. The organization is composed of 194 member states, working in over 130 countries worldwide. With extreme weather events from the climate crisis in combination with economic instability and escalating conflicts, the need for humanitarian efforts remains unacceptably high. The organization faces intensifying demand for its services as food crises continue to dominate the global outlook. The FAO strives to alleviate humanitarian need through focusing on those most at risk and helping in the most cost-effective ways to achieve immediate food security needs.
