About this Committee
The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL), otherwise known as the United Nations General Assembly Fourth Committee, was established on November 27, 1961. As part of the GA Resolution 1654 (XVI), SPECPOL deals with “[examining] the application the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples” as well as “[making] suggestions and recommendations on the progress and extent of the implementation of the Declaration”. Today, SPECPOL addresses issues over five decolonization-related issues, the effects of atomic radiation, use of outer space, and sensitive political issues while keeping and promoting peace. To achieve its goals, SPECPOL collaborates with different UN committees and non-profits, promoting the implementation peaceful resolutions.
