About this Committee
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was established in 1945, following World War II. Its formation was motivated by a universal vision to promote peace and security through the intersection of education, science, and culture. The scope of UNESCO’s work extends to advancing education and protecting cultural heritage, among many other goals. The organization’s efforts to address these issues are rooted in the shared vision of supporting a healthy, peaceful planet, in cooperation with its 194 member states.
Since its creation, UNESCO has significantly contributed to positive change through the creation of protective initiatives, such as protecting Nubian monuments from the Nile River floods. In 2020, the Global Education Coalition was created to protect the right to education. The organization has taken major strides to address these critical issues while working towards greater equality.
