Office of the Secretary-General
HAMUN 50
Maria Morkas, Secretary General
Ayush serves as HAMUN 50's Deputy Secretary General this year. He is currently attending Rice University as a Junior double majoring in Computer Science and Biochemistry. Throughout his MUN career, he has been a delegate for 2 years, Senior Staff for a year, and a part of the OSG for 2 years (HAMUN50 will be his 3rd!) A fun fact about him is that he has studied abroad in not one, but TWO countries for a year! (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
One piece of advice he'd like to give to delegates this year is to think deeply about your topics and positions and really take time to consider the practicality of how your propositions could be implemented in real life.
Manan Khandelwal, Chief of Staff
Yumn serves as HAMUN 50's Director General this year. She is currently attending the University of Houston (GO COOGS)! She is currently a Senior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration. She has been at HAMUN for 3 years so far! A fun fact about Yumn is that she lived in Doha, Qatar for 6 and a half years! One piece of advice that she'd like to give to you delegates is to ask questions! It is always okay to ask questions to your chairs, vice-chairs, crisis directors, etc. because everyone is always learning new things.
Rebecca Ji, Deputy Director-General
Ayush Suresh, Deputy Director General
Gabriel Bolanos is excited to be the USG of Crisis for HAMUN 49. He is currently studying Neuroscience with a minor in History at Rice University. Gabriel participated in HAMUN for four years in high school; last year, he was the crisis director for Ashes to Ashes: Eastern Council. He also crisis staffed for Rice MUN in 2022 and served as the Director of Finance for Rice MUN last year. In addition to Model UN, Gabriel is a TA for BrainSTEM, a club where Rice students teach K-12 students about neuroscience concepts. He is also on the leadership team for Rice Cru, a Christian organization. Outside of extracurriculars, Gabriel enjoys playing board games, working out, and writing music. His advice to delegates (for crisis in particular) is to constantly keep your country’s/character’s stance in mind and not be afraid to make bold decisions that fit with your particular stance. Also, don’t forget to have fun!
Michael Bolanos, USG of Outreach/Webmaster
Jordan Stanley is serving as the USG of Conference Services and GA Plen Co-Chair for HAMUN 49. Jordan is a sophomore at the University of Texas A&M in the class of 2025. She is majoring in Agricultural Leadership and Development with a minor in Financial Planning. This will be her 5th year in HAMUN as she was a delegate her sophomore through senior year of high school and served as the GA Plen chair for HAMUN 48. In her free time, Jordan enjoys spending time with her family back home on their ranch in Round Top, Tx where she raises beef cattle and hunts. She also enjoys spending time with her friends out and about in Aggieland. When she is not doing any of these activities, you can find her with her dog, Reba. Jordan's advice to senior delegates is to apply for the Andrea Flynn Scholarship as she was the HAMUN 47 recipient. Lastly, Jordan's advice to each and every delegate is to stop comparing yourself to others and make your biggest competition yourself.
Eshal Warsi, USG of Public Relations
Maria Morkas is overjoyed with serving HAMUN50 as your Secretary-General this year! She is currently attending Rice University studying Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences with a certificate in Spanish. Her Model UN career consists of being a delegate all through high school as well as being on the OSG for three years (this year being her fourth!).
Some fun facts about Maria is that she LOVES drinking chai, Henna, Wedding Planning, and napping (RELATABLE).
Ayush Suresh, Deputy Secretary General
Manan serves as HAMUN50's Chief of Staff this year. He is currently attending Texas A&M (Gig Em'!) as a junior majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He has "dabbled" in MUN a little bit for the PAST SIX YEARS! A fun fact about Manan is that he has finished every single game in the Halo series on Normal, Heroic, AND Legendary modes. He will even go as far as to do it all again just to prove it. (He's the actual GOAT).
One piece of advice he'd like to give to delegates this year is to do your research on the difference between GA/Specialized/Crisis Committees and pick wisely! You ultimately want something you will both enjoy and succeed in.
Yumn Qazi, Director-General
Rebecca Serves as HAMUN 50's Deputy Director-General this year. She is currently attending the University of Houston! She is currently a Sophomore majoring in MIS and Finance in Pre-Law. She has been attending HAMUN for 3 years, two as a delegate, and one as HAMUN 49's Legal Vice Chair. A fun fact about Rebecca is that she finds interest in Art, specifically digital and historical. She LOVES matcha and boba and has a passion for fashion! One piece of advice that she'd like to give to delegates this year is to try and absorb everyone's opinions around you while you build your argument, so you can form the right alliances at the start of committee.
Gabriel Bolanos, USG of Crisis
Ayush Suresh is serving as Deputy Director General of HAMUN 50 this upcoming school year. He is a junior majoring in CompSci and Biochemistry this year attending Rice University. This is his third year in HAMUN but has participated in MUN since he was in high school. Some advice that he would like to give to incoming delegates is think deeply about your topics and positions, and really take time to consider the practicality of how your propositions could be implemented in real life!.
Gabriel Bolanos, USG of Crisis
Michael Bolanos serves as the USG of Outreach and Webmaster. He is studying Biosciences and Visual Arts at Rice University. This is his sixth consecutive year at HAMUN being a delegate from high school and continued to chair the year after. He enjoys swimming before the sun rises, crocheting, and cooking Filipino dishes. In his free time he loves playing and listening to music. For incoming delegates, he recommends for them to not be stressed but have fun in debate. He also encourages delegates to reach out of their comfort zone and to always be kind.
Jordan Stanley, USG of Conference Services
Eshal serves as the USG of Public Relations and the Press Coordinator.
She is a junior at the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) studying Political Science with a minor in Leadership Studies. She participated in Model UN for all four years of high school and participated in HAMUN for three years. She also served as the PRESS Corps Chair for HAMUN 48. Eshal is passionate about educational equity and working with immigrant populations. She currently works with the Metropolitan Volunteer Program on campus and enjoys her time as team captain on her school’s mock trial team. Outside of school, she loves reading the news, watching romcoms and Christopher Nolan movies, and nerding out about books and history. If she had to give delegates one piece of advice it would be to do sufficient research outside of the conference. The last thing you want is to be caught off-guard in a conference!
