Code of Conduct

HAMUN Staff reserves the right to dismiss any participant from the conference due to a violation of any regulation. HAMUN will strictly enforce the following code of conduct:

Language

English is the official and working language of all committees during debate at HAMUN.

Name Badges and Credentials

For security purposes, name badges must be kept visible at all times by both delegates and faculty members.

Electronics

Delegates are permitted to use laptops during caucuses strictly for the purpose of crafting working papers/draft resolutions. Directors will be walking around to monitor computer use. Cell phones should only be used to contact parents and sponsors as needed. Otherwise, they are expected to be turned off and out of sight during committee sessions. Speeches should not be read off phones. Failure to adhere to this standard will result in ejection from the committee. Other electronics may not be used during the event. Any delegate found using permitted electronics outside of conference-approved usage or using prohibited electronics will receive one warning from the dais. After this warning, the device will be confiscated and sponsors will be notified.

Pre-Written Resolutions

HAMUN strives to promote an environment that fosters diplomacy and negotiation in all committees. With this in mind, delegates are not permitted to bring pre-written resolutions of any kind to the conference. Delegates are also prohibited from working on resolutions and other committee materials during meal breaks.

Notes

Note passing will be permitted in committees at the discretion of the dais and may be suspended at any time. Notes must be professional and pertinent to the topic. Any violations of this rule will result in suspension of note passing, sponsors being notified, and the Secretary General taking additional action regarding the sender(s) of the notes in question.

Smoking, Alcohol, and Drugs

Smoking is prohibited in all conference buildings at all times. Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited at all times and in all places, including any part of campus. Any delegate caught in possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will be barred from any and all future conferences and sent home immediately.

Sexual Harrasment

Sexual harassment is prohibited. Incidents of sexual harassment should be immediately reported to a faculty or a conference staff member. The Secretary-General will deal with these problems directly. This conference defines sexual harassment as:

1. An unwanted sexual advance that may take the form of inappropriate sexual or suggestive comments, sounds, or jokes; unsolicited touching.

2. Such conduct that has the purpose of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s academic performance, or of creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational, social, living, or working environment.

AI Policy

HAMUN Staff reserves the right to dismiss any participant from the conference due to a violation of any regulation. HAMUN will strictly enforce the following policy:

For this policy,

AI tools refer to any software, website, or application that uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, or generative algorithms to:

  • Create or assist in producing written, visual, audio, or code-based materials.

  • Generate or edit images, designs, essays, reports, or presentations.

  • Analyze or summarize data or text.

  • Simulate conversation or reasoning (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DALL·E, Midjourney, etc.).

Position Papers

MUN’s educational value as an activity is to foster independent research and critical thinking skills in its participants. Thus, the use of any Artificial Intelligence in writing position papers is prohibited. HAMUN staff will check the authenticity and reserve the right to dismiss a delegation’s paper if AI use is suspected. Any individual concerns should be directed to the delegate’s respective committee dais upon submission.

Resolution Papers

HAMUN strives to promote an environment that fosters diplomacy and negotiation in all committees. With this in mind, delegates are not permitted to use Artificial Intelligence to write speeches, resolutions, or any additional committee materials.

Delegates who violate the AI policy will be deemed ineligible for awards in their committee, and their school may be removed from consideration for delegation awards.
