The African Union is a continental organization comprising the 55 nations that currently make up the African continent; officially launched as the successor to the Organization of African Unity (OAU, 1963-1999) in 2002, the AU has served as the central decision-making body for the continent and has passed over 200 resolutions since its original conception in 1963. In order to combat recent developments, the AU has begun pushing for resource mobilization to advance their various agendas to ensure the realization of the Pan-African Vision. Through the creation and maintenance of independently functioning organs, the Union has successfully been able to isolate issues spread across the continent and solve them simultaneously. The Assembly of Heads of State and Government, and The African Union Commission are some of the core branches of the AU, and have worked together to combat ongoing escalations in Nepal, Eritrea, South Sudan, and other conflict regions.
