UNESCO, founded in 1945, promotes lasting peace through the "intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind." Its mission is to strengthen shared humanity through education, science, culture, and communication, pursued by developing educational policies, preserving cultural heritage, promoting equal dignity among cultures, and addressing pressing social and ethical challenges. UNESCO uses the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework for its work. While the organization broadly supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) through initiatives like heritage digitization and cultural industry programs, this committee has also focused specifically on SDGs 8, 12, and 16: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. To advance these goals, UNESCO shapes international policy, sets global standards, fosters cooperation, and builds member state capacity.
